Volunteer Staffers
In order to maintain our office hours, we rely on our volunteer staffers. Our staffers are available to connect folks with resources, our services, and provide support through active listening. Staffers can choose two hours per week to hold office hours and are connected with the rest of the Collective via our Slack workspace.
We offer live training sessions once per semester, but with the transition to remote delivery, our trainings are available at any point in the year. This training includes workshops on anti-oppression, trans allyship, active-listening, anti-colonialism, and harm-reduction in addition to an introduction to the UGE and an overview of how to provide our services and refer other resources.
The Collective
The Collective is the consensus-based decision-making body of the UGE. The Collective is a mix of volunteers and employees, and we operate non-hierarchically to ensure that all voices are valued equally. We communicate through our Slack workspace and meet bi-weekly during the academic year.
Anyone is welcome to join the Collective, as a volunteer or as an employee. Our job postings are listed on SSMU’s SmartRecruiters page and we are a proud member of the SSMUnion, CUPE Local 5447.
