The Union for Gender Empowerment supports community members and groups, and one way that we are able to do so is through our discretionary fund. The amount of the fund will be determined by June 1st of each year and distributed evenly for each month of the year. The amount of monthly funding available will be posted to our website as soon as the information is available.
Please note that the UGE is also open to collaborations as co-sponsorships. Please contact us for more information.
To submit a Discretionary Funding Request please fill out the form (below) and submit to the UGE collective at ugecollective[at]gmail[dot]com by the 1st of the month. Funding requests are considered at the first Collective meeting of the month and applicants will be notified of the results within a week after the meeting.
For the 2014-2015 year we will have 150$ available each month.
UGE Discretionary Funding Application
Funding is given to applicants whose projects align with the Union’s mandate to address systems of oppression which enforce a gender binary and use that binary to privilege some groups and punish those who fall outside it and to welcome queer, two spirited, transgender, transsexual, intersex, and genderqueer people. (view our complete mandate at unionforgenderempowerment.wordpress.com/mandate).
Funding will also be decided based on applicants’ commitment to addressing the McGill community, the Montreal community, and prevalent issues within the province of Quebec, as well as a commitment to education and action.
Applicants that are not already affiliated with or funded by an institution will be given preference.
Non-Monetary Aid and Use of Resources (ie. space, computer, button maker)
The Union for Gender Empowerment can offer non-monetary resources, including our space (outside the hours of 10 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday), a computer, printing, a 1.25″ button maker, etc.
To request non-monetary resources please email us at ugecollective[at]gmail[dot]com with the details of your request (ie. date, time, and resources needed). It is not necessary to fill out the discretionary funding complete form.
How you can support the UGE
If your project receives funding form the Union we ask that you include our logo in publicity materials or media coverage, if applicable, as well as copies of these. A brief, informal follow up on the project prior to the event or after the completion of the project is also appreciated.
